Members periodically select specific subjects or themes for their photographs. The current theme is "The Month of February.” February can be a cold and dreary month, but it also has cherished holidays. The challenge is to take photos that epitomize or characterize the month of February. This can include holiday photos such as Valentines Day or Presidents Day. It can also include photos that show the cold wintry weather. The following photos, taken and selected by members, exemplify that theme.

Members periodically select specific subjects or themes for their photographs. The current theme is “FRAMING AS A COMPOSITIONAL TECHNIQUE.” Framing is a compositional technique that helps bring attention directly to the subject of the photo by blocking off part of the image to form a frame around a point of interest in the photo. Its main goal is to draw the viewer’s eye to what’s most important, but it also works by making the scene look more interesting too, which makes the photo more compelling. For example, to highlight the subject one might shoot through a doorway, pull back curtains, branches, fences, tunnels, or arches. With this technique, you can create depth in a photo and make it more interesting. Photos for this theme need to demonstrate this technique. Members were urged to use their imaginations and to try to be creative. The following photos taken and selected by members, exemplify that theme.

Members periodically select specific subjects or themes for their photographs. The current theme is “SHADOWS.” While light may provide the key ingredient for photography, shadows provide the flavor. Shadows add depth, shape, and texture to our imagery — not to mention, contrast and balance. As in this theme, shadows can even become the focus or subject of an image. Simply put, a shadow is a dark area on a surface that appears when light from a light source is blocked by an object. Members were urged to use their imagination and creativity to try to capture an interesting shadow. The following photos taken and selected by members, exemplify that theme.

Members periodically select specific subjects or themes for their photographs. The current theme is “Abstract Photography.” Abstract photography, sometimes called non-objective, experimental, conceptual or concrete photography, is a means of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world and that has been created through the use of photographic equipment, processes or materials. Like abstract art, abstract photography concentrates on shape, form, color, pattern and texture. The viewer is often unable to see the whole object. The subject of the photo is often only a small part of the idea of the image. Viewers may only know the essence of the image subject or understand it by what is implied. Often the image will not be a literal view of the subject itself. The subject tends to come second to seeing. Abstract photos can be created by using your camera to capture interesting combinations of colors, patterns and textures. These can be naturally occurring forms, or images created by using camera and/or subject movement or photo editing software. Members were asked to use their imaginations and to try and be creative. The following photos taken and selected by members, exemplify that theme.
