Photography SIG – Photos of the Month

Members periodically select specific subjects or themes for their photographs. The current theme is “FRAMING AS A COMPOSITIONAL TECHNIQUE.” Framing is a compositional technique that helps bring attention directly to the subject of the photo by blocking off part of the image to form a frame around a point of interest in the photo. Its main goal is to draw the viewer’s eye to what’s most important, but it also works by making the scene look more interesting too, which makes the photo more compelling. For example, to highlight the subject one might shoot through a doorway, pull back curtains, branches, fences, tunnels, or arches. With this technique, you can create depth in a photo and make it more interesting. Photos for this theme need to demonstrate this technique. Members were urged to use their imaginations and to try to be creative. The following photos taken and selected by members, exemplify that theme.
