Valley of The Fallen (Valle de los Caídos) is a Francoist regime monument, Catholic basilica and a monumental memorial in the municipality of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, erected at Cuelgamuros Valley in the Sierra de Guadarrama, near Madrid. It contains Franco’s tomb.

The Escorial

The Escorial - a vast building complex located in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, near Madrid, in central Spain. The building is the most important architectural monument of the Spanish Renaissance. Construction began in 1563 and ended in 1584. The project was conceived by King Philip II, who wanted a building to serve the multiple purposes of a burial place for his father, Holy Roman emperor Charles V, as a Hieronymite monastery, and as a palace. The complex contains a chamber with twenty-six marble sepulchers containing the remains of the kings and queens regnant of the Habsburg and Bourbon dynasties from Charles I to the present, except for Philip V and Ferdinand VI.

Toledo - The Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca is a museum and former synagogue in Toledo, Spain. Erected in 1180, according to an inscription on a beam, it is disputably considered the oldest synagogue building in Europe still standing. It is now owned and preserved by the Catholic Church

Windmills and Castle of Consuegra: Consuegra is a village in the province of Toledo and became famous for its windmills in the 17th century, when Don Quixote was first published. Consuegra Castle is on a site where previous castles have existed perhaps back to Roman times. After the fortress was taken from the Moors, the castle was ceded to the military order of Knights Hospitaller, by King Alfonso VIII in 1183.

Cordoba's ancient city walls. Córdoba is a city in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia, and the capital of the province of Córdoba. It was an important Roman city and a major Islamic center in the Middle Ages.

Granada - the Alhambra: Granada is a city in southern Spain’s Andalusia region, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It's known for grand examples of medieval architecture dating to the Moorish occupation, especially the Alhambra. This sprawling hilltop fortress complex encompasses royal palaces, serene patios, and reflecting pools from the Nasrid dynasty, as well as the fountains and orchards of the Generalife gardens.

Ronda - Ronda is a mountaintop city in Spain’s Malaga province that’s set dramatically above a deep gorge. This gorge (El Tajo) separates the city’s circa-15th-century new town from its old town, dating to Moorish rule. Puente Nuevo, a stone bridge spanning the gorge, has a lookout offering views.

Seville - The Alcázar - a royal palace, built for the Christian king Peter of Castile. It was built by Castilian Christians on the site of an Abbadid Muslim residential fortress destroyed after the Christian conquest of Seville. Although some elements of other civilizations remains, the palace, a preeminent example of Mudejar architecture in the Iberian Peninsula, is renowned as one of the most beautiful. The upper levels of the Alcázar are still used by the royal family as their official residence in Seville. Seville -Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See (Seville Cathedral) . It is the world’s largest Gothic cathedral and the third largest church in the world. Built between 1402 and 1506 in striking Mudejar, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles, the Seville Cathedral was designed to epitomize the influence and prosperity of post-Reconquista Seville.

Lisbon - The Jerónimos Monastery or Hieronymites Monastery, is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome . No expense was spared when they built this masterpiece of Manueline and Gothic architecture in 1502, which was inspired by Vasco da Gama who is buried here with other great navigators of the past.

Paulo and Largo do Calhariz, the nineteenth century funicular ascends one of Lisbon’s steepest hills, crossing the quaint Bica district on its way up towards the Bairro Alto neighbourhood. It’s considered Lisbon’s most picturesque funicular.

Lisbon - Tower of Belém - Built on the northern bank of the Tagus between 1514 and 1520as part of the Tagus estuary defense system, the Tower of Belém is a fortified tower and is one of the architectural jewels of the reign of Manuel I. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the significant role it played in the Portuguese maritime discoveries of the era of the Age of Discoveries.

Sintra - The Moorish- and Manueline-style Sintra National Palace is distinguished by dramatic twin chimneys and elaborate tilework. Sintra is a resort town in the foothills of Portugal’s Sintra Mountains, near the capital, Lisbon. A longtime royal sanctuary, its forested terrain is studded with pastel-colored villas and palaces.
